Summary |
0000889: Out of date symlink timestamp rationale |
Description |
The RATIONALE section on the fstatat() page contains a paragraph
about symlink timestamps that has been out of date since the 2008
revision (when meaningful values were mandated for all standard
struct stat members, except the file mode bits of st_mode, were
mandated for symlinks).
|
Desired Action |
Delete the paragraph:The lstat() function is not required to update the time-related fields if the named file is not a symbolic link. While the st_uid, st_gid, st_atim, st_mtim, and st_ctim members of the stat structure may apply to a symbolic link, they are not required to do so. No functions in POSIX.1-2008 are required to maintain any of these time fields.
